Allen was acquired two seasons ago in the Danny Granger trade along with Evan Turner. He showed off plenty of hustle coming off the bench in his 17 minutes a game last season but he has ultimately been a third option behind Ian Mahinmi and Luis Scola at the backup center and power forward positions.
The issue now is that the Pacers’ rotation of bigs is in jeaopardy since David West has already opted out, and Roy Hibbert may be moving on via trade. Luis Scola and Chris Copeland are also free agents, so keeping Lavoy was a very common sense move for the organization. While the Pacers are attempting to speed up their style next season, Allen still brings some of that famous Indiana grit to the team.
If you are unaware of who Lavoy Allen is, some of his few highlights as a Pacer include blocking Kobe Bryant and complaining that his NBA2K rating is too high. Last season, Allen, the 6-foot-9 big, averaged 5.0 points and 5.1 rebounds as a backup power forward who also occasionally mixed it up as a center.
