Larry Fitzgerald also announced his decision in a post on his Instagram.
Larry Fitzgerald will be 36 years old when the Cardinals start their regular season in September. Despite his age, Fitzgerald was the Cardinals best receiver this season with 69 catches and 734 yards. His six touchdowns and 10.6 yards per reception matched last years totals, indicating that his decline in yards and catches may have been a result of having a rookie quarterback and first-year head coach.
The Arizona Cardinals hired head coach Kliff Kingsbury this off-season after firing Steve Wilks, who was Arizona’s head coach for one year before being let go. Since being drafted in 2004, Fitzgerald has played under five head coaches, Kingsbury being his third in three years. In that same time, 10 different quarterbacks have led the team in passing. Age may have not been the biggest issue the veteran receiver was considering when contemplating his return.
