One of the biggest free agents on the open market has been snatched up, as former New York Giants safety Landon Collins has agreed to a 6-year, $84 million deal with the Washington Redskins as first reported by ESPN’s Josina Anderson and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, electing to stay within the NFC East.

Earlier in the offseason, the Giants refused to apply their franchise tag, worth $11 million, to Collins and failed to agree on a long term deal, allowing the star safety to become a free agent. Collins, a 3 time Pro Bowler and 1 time first team All-Pro, has been an instant impact player as a strong safety in the league, tallying 428 total tackles in just 4 seasons while also adding 8 interceptions.

Collins previously announced his desire to get a long term contract secured, and the Redskins were more than happy to oblige, shelling out a deal worth $14 million a year with $45 million guaranteed. With the addition of Collins, the Redskins add sorely needed elite talent to their defensive back group currently held down by another big money defensive back in Josh Norman and a motley crew of no-name players.
