Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover has slowly become one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars. The actor who got his start in Hollywood in the comedy show ‘Community’ has come along way from making skits with his college roommates. As part of his rise in Hollywood, Glover will be playing one of Star Wars’ most iconic characters, Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is set to release next week.
Although none of us have even got to see Glover as the smooth talking Star Wars icon, rumours circulated earlier this morning that Lucasfilm and the studio had been planning a ‘Lando’ spinoff film. Lucasfilm Chief Kathleen Kennedy clarified the rumours and spoke on the possibility of a Lando Calrissian spinoff movie (According to Collider News):
Following the publication of our article, Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy. ‘We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie …’
There is no doubt that the creative mind of Donald Glover has caught the attention of Hollywood executives and everybody wants a piece. The Atlanta creator and actor has gained quite a bit of success throughout the last year since debuting the FX show and with him taking on the role of Lando in the Solo movie, even more opportunities will be coming his way. With Solo set to release next week, Lucasfilm’s will be waiting on fans reactions to see what to do with the future of the Solo story. Is a Lando Calrissian spinoff definitely happening? No. But plans change faster than you would know in Hollywood and come next week, Glover could have his own Star Wars story coming very soon. As fans, let’s just sit back and enjoy the Donald Glover ride for now.
