Just a few days after parting ways with the San Antonio Spurs, LaMarcus Aldridge signs with the Brooklyn Nets. The news has shocked some. For those counting, the Brooklyn Nets roster now has Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Blake Griffin at its disposal already. With teams like the Lakers and others interested in bringing Aldridge on, the Nets come out on top again.

This season, Aldridge has been averaging career-lows in almost all categories. Some point out it may have much to do with his dissatisfaction in San Antonio. Players have slowed up their production in order to let teams know they want a change. At this point in his career, it is obvious Aldridge wants to play for a winner. Super-team scolds, be damned! While this does put the Nets in a very good spot talent-wise, there are no guarantees in the NBA Playoffs.
With defending champs, the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis there are definitely no guarantees for Brooklyn. Currently, they don’t even have the best record in the East. The Nets still stand 1.5 games behind the 76ers. With 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo still lurking in Milwaukee, there should be a very competitive East.
The thing teams should be worried about, Brooklyn still has a roster spot open. Will they bring someone else on who has been recently released, like Andre Drummond? At the moment the Lakers look like the leaders for Drummond’s services. It also wouldn’t make any sense to add yet another big man after this signing. So who will fill that last spot? At this point do they care to add another big name, or will the minutes just get clogged up?

As the Lakers pursue their final piece, the two teams will focus on the end of the season and the 2021 NBA Playoffs ahead. Many fans, myself included, would love to see the Nets and Lakers in the Finals. Otherwise, it will only be what could have been.
