Lamar Odom has thankfully made huge progress in recovering from the fight of his life. The former NBA player tragically fell into a coma last October after overdosing and there was a very real possibility that he would never recover. Fortunately, Odom has miraculously turned his health around and seems to be on the right track to a full recovery from the terrifying situation.
Among Odom’s inspirations in his difficult recover? Apparently, Kanye West.
Odom’s recovery was shown from a behind-the-scenes standpoint on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” on Sunday. (The show also released pictures of Odom at the hospital. Because they are somewhat graphic, we are choosing to only show one at the very bottom of this post.) The video included West at Odom’s bed-side rapping.
Two Kardashians referenced Odom saying that West’s music was a major part of his recovery (transcription via Sporting News):
Kim Kardashian revealed Lamar had told her: “Kanye’s music helped me so much. That’s when I realized I could start thinking again and things were coming back to me and I could start articulating it.”
Khloe Kardashian echoed those thoughts saying, “He’s always like that. He’s like ‘Kanye he saved me.’”
Clearly, Odom felt connected to West and his rapping, shown by the quote revealed by Khloe Kardashian.
The power forward has since made several public appearances, with Kanye joining him, including at two Lakers games. The two-time champion was most notable present at Kobe Bryant’s final game, giving a message in the video for his former teammate which was met by raucous applause by the STAPLES Center crowd. The big man has even talked about attempting an NBA comeback.
It’s obviously a pleasure to see Lamar back on his feet and healthy after many, if not all of us felt his life could have ended on that night. Kanye’s music may very well have been the inspiration and for that, I’m personally grateful. Lamar Odom is one of my favorite players and people and it’s honestly just amazing to see him alive and healthy.
