Lakers Sign Wayne Ellington
The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Monday that they have signed free agent shooting guard Wayne Ellington. Playing in just 45 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season, Ellington shot 42 percent from the three-point line in 8.7 minutes per game. The 26-year-old was sent to the New York Knicks in the Tyson Chandler trade, then to the Sacramento Kings, who waived him.
Ellington is a capable shooting threat on the wing, where the Lakers want to have some depth to compensate for what should be a minutes-reserved season for their superstar Kobe Bryant. The Lakers also have Nick Young and Xavier Henry as two or three-guard options – an interesting mix for head coach Byron Scott to experiment with in his first season as Laker head coach.
