Hart has now become the third member of the Lakers to be shut down for the rest of the season due to injury. Lonzo Ball hasn’t played for the team since January 19 after sustaining an ankle injury. Brandon Ingram’s season ended in early March after discovering a blood clot in his right shoulder.
In late January, Hart exited a game early with knee tendinitis in the same knee. When asked about the flare-up, he blamed the problem on his lack of rest in the offseason, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli.
“I think it was just everything this summer,” Hart said. “Didn’t really take too much time off this summer — did summer league and I took like a week off and I was right back in the gym — so I didn’t really let my body rest too much during the summer when you’re supposed to let your body rest.”
This season, the second-year guard averaged 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field.
