The prognosis has been up and down on Kyrie Irving over the last few weeks. Before the season started, it was feared that Irving would be out until January. That was quickly shot down by the Cleveland Cavaliers and he was expected to return well before January.
But now we’re approaching Thanksgiving and there is still no return date in mind. Kyrie apparently had a return date in mind but he wouldn’t reveal it to the media but now it appears that Cavs coach David Blatt doesn’t think Irving’s return will happen anytime soon.
Following from Chris B. Haynes of Cleveland.com.
After practice on Thursday, Cavaliers head coach David Blatt made it sound as if point guard Kyrie Irving isn’t close to a return to action.
“[We’re] not rushing things and not letting up from the day-to-day work, but still a ways to go,” he said. “And how much, I can’t honestly tell you, but he’s working at it every day.”
“We’re just taking small steps,” Blatt said. “Small and sure.”
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes that we will see Kyrie back in a couple of weeks.
Windhorst: Kyrie is doing some contact work. Scrimmaging 3-on-3. I expect him back in a couple of weeks. #Cavs

The Cavs shouldn’t be in any sort of rush to get Kyrie back. They sit atop of the Eastern Conference without him and with an ailing and injured LeBron James playing second fiddle to Kevin Love on the offense. If the Cavs are smart, they will just let Kyrie rest up, get ready for whenever he is 100% good to go and come back stronger than ever.
You saw what happened last year when Kevin Durant tried to rush his return to the court. It didn’t go well at all. Now with Kyrie nursing his broken kneecap and some possible lingering tension between the Cavs and Irving’s camp it might be best to have Kyrie sit down for a little while longer.
