Back in October before the season started, Kyrie Irving announced at a Boston Celtics’ fan event that he plans to re-sign with the organization. He also contacted the team’s ownership to tell them about his plans on staying with the team long-term.
As the Celtics prepare to play against the New York Knicks, Kyrie talked to the media and was asked about his commitment to re-sign with the Celtics during this offseason, to which he answered that they should ask him again on July 1, when the offseason starts.
Kyrie Irving asked if his mindset has changed regarding re-signing with Boston: “Ask me July 1.” He says he’s going to do what’s best for his career.

After these comments, it might sound that Kyrie is not 100 percent sure on re-signing with the Celtics. For Kyrie, the Celtics are ahead in the race of his free agency. He also said that he is still confident in the team and their future.
Kyrie Irving said he still has confidence in the Celtics and what they promise for the future. “Obviously Boston’s still at the head of that race.”

Currently, Kyrie is not worried about his reputation or legacy, but more about making the right decisions. He wants to make his own choices and stop doing what everybody else wants him to do. As he said, he has spent his last 8 years letting other people influence his decision making to please them and he doesn’t owe anybody sh-t.
“I’ve spent the last 8 years trying to do what everybody else wanted me to do in terms of making my decisions and trying to validate thru the media, thru other personnel, managers and I don’t owe anybody sh*t.” —@KyrieIrving this AM about his future FA decision

Kyrie also expressed his frustrations on people asking where is he going to sign this offseason. He said that his focus right now is on helping the team and the young players to grow. In the end, he stated that he will do what’s best for him and his family.
