The Boston Celtics have had a tumultuous season. High expectations mixed with the reintegration of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward into the starting lineup has left the team with chemistry issues. Those issues have reportedly been discussed with an apology being issued by Irving, according to the Bill Simmons Podcast.
“There’s this legendary plane ride that apparently happened on the way to Golden State and I think there’s a chance, I don’t want to get to caught up in it, the hope of it, but I think it really might have changed the season,” Simmons said on the podcast. “It started with Kyrie talking to Brad Stevens and had a big heart to heart about everything.”
“And then Kyrie asked to talk to the whole team and had this huge life talk on the plane,” Simmons continued. “Kyrie apparently was like apologizing to everybody and said ‘I am not handling this well, I am sorry I am not doing this, I have been a dick’ and just kind of did the whole thing.”
The plane ride that will hopefully alter the Celtics’ season was mentioned after Boston clobbered the Golden State Warriors 128-95. Now we have some insight as to what happened on that cross-country flight. If you want to listen to the full discussion, it starts at the 57-minute mark of the podcast.
