Kobe Bryant is retired and out of the spotlight, but we still can get Kobe to talk about things sometimes. Kobe, who recently announced that his 3rd child is on the way, stopped by Time Warner Sportsnet Studios on Tuesday and spoke with Mike Bresnahan. Here are the highlights:
- Kobe has a beard
Who ever saw this coming? Kobe was bald for his last few seasons, so who knew that he would grow a beard after retiring. He mentioned he can’t use “Fear the Beard” because that is what James Harden uses for his beard, so he thinks he will just stick with calling it the “retired caveman look.”
- He will not comeback to the game
How can someone with the competitive drive of Kobe Bryant just walk away from the game so easily? Kobe said that even watching Team USA has not made him want to come back. Kobe is old, and that kind of wear and tear on his body is rough, but you gotta think that the thought will cross his mind sometime during the season. He will start to feel an itch to comeback, but who knows if he actually will do it.
- We shouldn’t be worried about Team USA
Kobe isn’t worried about Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics, even after a few close games, so why are we? “It’s a global game, now, so it’s going to be tough,” Kobe said. Bryant mentioned that he is still talking to guys such as Kyrie Irving, who FaceTimed Bryant from the locker room after winning an NBA Championship, and said, “they’ll be fine.” Maybe if Team USA wins gold, Kyrie will FaceTime Bryant for that too.
- The future for the Lakers
Bryant mentioned that the young guys will benefit from playing together. He also is excited with what his former teammate Luke Walton brings to the table as a head coach. He said Luke will teach the guys to play “the right way.” It is funny that he called the right way team basketball, because during his day he was known for isolating and scoring himself.
- Getting slimed
Kobe Bryant attended the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards, and during the course of it, he got slimed. “It gets everywhere,” Bryant said. “I was getting gold out of my ass for two days.”
