The biggest discussion in sports today is the debate over whether athletes should stay standing or be allowed to kneel in protest during the National Anthem. Really, it’s a stupid discussion; athletes are people who should be able to express themselves however they’d like. If they want to kneel, let them. If they want to stand, let them. Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple in the NBA, because the league has a rule mandating that all players stand during the anthem, and commissioner Adam Silver recently said that he expects all players to adhere to that rule.
One NBA legend says that he wouldn’t follow Adam Silver’s expectation; Kobe Bryant appeared on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast and, when asked what he’d do if he were unretired, responded with a simple, one-word answer:
“Kneel.”
Bryant was then asked what he would say to President Donald Trump if he had the opportunity:
“Focus on serving, not leading.”
Bryant has an incredible NBA resume to his name, including five championships, an MVP award, 18 All-Star appearances, 15 All-NBA selections and two scoring titles.
