Since being drafted by Charlotte and eventually being traded to The Lakers Kobe Bryant has dazzled us with game winners, clutch performances, and mind blowing performances. His Jordan-like desire to be the best and to work harder than anyone in the game is truly one of the more amazing things in all of sports not just The NBA. Now that Bryant’s career is near the end it makes you wonder what the five time NBA champion will do once he retires. We all wondered what Jordan would do when he did finally retire for the last time back in 2003, and yet you can still see the want and desire he has to play while he sits on the sidelines of The Charlotte Hornets games. Well Bryant sat down with ESPN and discussed his life after basketball.
The unexpected time off last season forced Bryant to think about his post-basketball future.
“I’m afraid, too,” he said Friday at the summer TV critics’ meeting. “You really have to lean on muses and mentors going forward, just as I did as a kid. It’s about having that next wave of things, which is scary as hell, but it’s fun at the same time.”
Bryant has truly had an amazing career, and he’s always been THE marquee player to watch in The NBA. Bryant knows his career is coming to a close and he knows that his body has a lot of mileage on it. Bryant the past couple seasons has been injury ridden, but I can assure you he will not go away quietly and will prove right before our eyes he has plenty left in the tank. Bryant has played through plenty of injuries over the years and has proven to be one of the most passionate and one of the toughest NBA players to ever play the game.
Often times you see players like Kobe retire from playing basketball and find themselves in a front office role or a coaching role which I can see, but he will always have that fire in his eye to play the game he’s so passionate about. Bryant has seen every situation as an NBA player and that can help any team. My suggestion to any basketball fan is to sit back and enjoy one of the all time greats to ever step on the court, because before you know it the last of the old school mentality will be gone before you know it.
