Fans will never, ever get tired of Kobe Bryant, even if he did retire. Fans of Kobe will forever love him, and some of his richest fans will not hesitate to buy some of his game worn gear.
How about a game-worn mask? Yep.
Kobe broke his nose during the 2012 All-Star game (thanks, Dwyane Wade), and, as a result, he had to wear masks while his nose healed. Now, someone who managed to get their hands on one of these masks is auctioning it off.
Some information from the seller:
“A letter from a member of the Los Angeles Lakers training staff accompanies this lot that states the following:
‘In order to make the mask, a molding of Kobe’s face had to be made. Kobe had to sit for several minutes while the mold was applied and hardened. Once the mold was created, the mask was formed.
The mask originally had two straps; one that wrapped around behind his head, and another which wrapped over the top. Kobe did not like the strap over the top of his head so the team had to remove it. This is the reason why you still see a small round metal piece at the forehead of the mask. The small metal piece is where the over-the-head strap was anchored.'”
There are more details on the mask, such as more of Kobe’s complications with it and some highlight videos where he is wearing the mask. One of these masks has sold for $67,000 before, so that is likely what the seller is looking for. Currently, there are no bids on the item. The starting price is $15,000. I can see why a Kobe super-fan would be interested in this, but I would not personally pay that much for a mask, even if it was worn by the Black Mamba himself.
