The summer of the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers will be upon us on July 1st. Both big market teams have a lot of money to spend and they may or not spend it wisely. This summer will be full of guys leaving their teams to join other teams for either short-term max deals or long-term max deals depending on their situations.
The situation with the Knicks, they have nothing to wait for. They’re already expected to be frontrunners to land Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo but they have a bunch of options. They are going to throw money at any big name that wants to join them but the only question is, what other players are on their radar?
Following from ESPN’s Chris Broussard.
New York Knicks brass will head to Los Angeles this week to meet with LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan, according to league sources.
The Knicks’ contingent is believed to include president Phil Jackson, GM Steve Mills and head coach Derek Fisher.
With Wednesday being the first day teams are able meet with free agents, both meetings are expected to be completed before Friday.
While the Knicks are considered long shots to land either Aldridge or Jordan, sources said they are in each players top four.
Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has already called both players, as well as Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo, sources said. The Knicks will also meet with Monroe this week and eventually Wesley Matthews.
New York meeting with all of these guys is a promising thing for Knicks fans. They will have the ideas of free agents dancing around in their head with the thoughts of winning galore. In real life, it appears that Monroe would be the most likely player to join the Knicks.
The other guys would be possible better fits for the Knicks but Monroe might join because the team may not feel confident in their ability to grab other guys to come in. The possible best fit for the team would be bringing in Wesley Matthews and DeAndre Jordan but it appears they might just settle for Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo.
