The NBA Finals has officially come down to 1 game. It’s win or go home, for either side, not taking into consideration the stakes it holds for both teams to win an NBA title. For the Cavaliers if they win, it means the chance to make history in more ways than one, becoming the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the franchise’s first ever NBA title. On the other hand, if the Warriors win, they become the closest any team has gotten to a perfect season and perfect team.
All-Star guard and the half of the splash brothers duo that didn’t throw his mouth guard, Klay Thompson, agrees that it’s really win or go home for the 73-9 Golden State Warriors. After their 115-101 loss in Cleveland in Game 6, Thompson spoke with Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated about the teams mentality:
Warriors’ Klay Thompson on if 73-win season will be failure if they lose Game 7: “100 percent. … It’s either win the whole thing or bust.”

For both teams this game serves as a cornerstone in their franchise’s history. For the Cavaliers, it will cement LeBron James’ legacy into history as the man who brought the Cavaliers back from 3-1 in Finals to win their first title. For the Warriors, losing would be the closest thing to a bust this season. For the team that has won 73 games, only lost once at home in the regular season, throned an MVP for the 2nd season in a row, losing a championship would be the ultimate bust. For game 5 and game 6 it seemed like the Cavaliers had the Warriors on the ropes, looking like the better team throughout a majority of those games, but anything can change in the Oracle Arena, especially in Game 7. Thompson and cast will have to pull off a stellar performance against the challenging Cavaliers, but with the arena and the whole city behind them, and a fired up Curry family, you can bet the Warriors won’t back down from this challenge. Oh how I love Game 7’s.
