The Sacramento Kings shockingly fired head coach Mike Malone last night which caused a stir around the NBA. Well the Kings maybe looking to make an even bigger one within the next two days, as reports are saying former NBA coach of the year George Karl is their top candidate.
Karl, currently an analyst for ESPN, hasn’t coached since the 2012-2013 season when he led the Nuggets to a 57 win season which earned him the coach of the year award.
“I’m humbled,” Karl said in an interview about the Kings interest. “If they’re interested in me, I’m interested in them.
Karl has a head coaching career that spans 25 years with four different teams: Seattle, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Denver. He has .599 winning percentage in the regular season, however has only made it to the conference finals once in 2001 with the Bucks.
Until the Kings decide on a new coach, former Jazz and current assistant Tyrone Corbin will hold the position on a interim basis.
