The Sacramento Kings have traded DeMarcus Cousins, so they’re in rebuilding mode. Their draft pick – which will go to the Chicago Bulls if it falls out of the top-10 – is currently projected to be the 11th pick. It’s tank o’clock for the Kings. So, trading the players who will help them win for assets seems like a prudent move. That’s exactly what they’re going to do, reports Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports:
Sacramento is determined to restock the franchise with assets, and will be targeting rookie-deal players and draft picks in the coming days, sources told The Vertical. Free agents-to-be Ben McLemore and Darren Collison are available, sources said, as is Arron Afflalo, a solid bench scorer with a manageable contract.
Arron Afflalo is a decent shooting guard, but isn’t going to be a difference-maker for any teams (Kendrick Lamar probably isn’t quite as jealous of him these days). Darren Collison is a solid point guard, and the Kings might be able to get a decent return from a playoff team who needs a backup point guard (looking at you, Cleveland). Ben McLemore has been a massive disappointment as an NBA player, and it seems unlikely that any teams will want to take a flier on him, especially given that he’s on an expiring contract.
