Lightweight Keyshawn Davis, middleweight Troy Isley and featherweight Duke Ragan have officially joined the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team that will travel to Tokyo, Japan next month for the 2021 Summer Olympic Games. Each of the three fighters has professional experience, but a recent IOC rule change allowed for professional boxers to compete.
Davis is seen by many as America’s best chance at winning an Olympic Gold Medal in boxing since Andre Ward did so in 2004. He has earned a record of 3-0 while fighting on the undercard of Canelo-Yildirim, Herring-Frampton and Canelo-Saunders.
“This opportunity began nonexistent,” Davis said about his decision to head to Tokyo, Japan.
“So to see myself here again, I have learned that destiny isn’t determined by no man, it only holds a purpose that time will reveal. I am proud to be an Olympian.”
Like Davis, Isley and Ragan are both in the early 20s and have undefeated records. Ragan has earned a record of 4-0 with one knockout while Isley has one professional bout under his belt.
“This is something I’ve always dreamed of since I was a little kid and when I got the call, I was dumbstruck, and still to this day I haven’t gathered the words to explain how I feel,” Ragan said.
“I’m very thankful for this opportunity, and I wanted to thank God and give my dad a special thanks, as he was my trainer from 2017-2019 and it may never have been possible without him making the sacrifices he made for me, as well as a thank you to USA Boxing. It’s my pleasure to represent USA Boxing in the 2020 Olympics.”
The 2021 Summer Olympic Games are set to begin on July 23 and run through August 8 in Japan.
