UPDATE (09/23/2016):
Kevin Garnett has officially announced his retirement via Instagram:
Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan. All retiring, all in one offseason. Maybe Chris Bosh too.
Garnett is done with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and probably his career, reports Kent Youngblood of the StarTribune:
Garnett and the Timberwolves came to an agreement Friday and a retirement announcement from Garnett is expected shortly, according to league source.
The news comes with the Timberwolves first training camp under Tom Thibodeau set to begin Tuesday.
Garnett, easily the best player in Timberwolves’ history, will be sorely missed by this team. In his prime, he was a two-way athletic beast, who became the highest-paid player in history due to his blend of scoring, athleticism, defense, and playmaking. In the latter part of his career, Garnett played the role of mentor to the Timberwolves’ young players. Most notably, he has had a huge impact on Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns, who is sure to be devastated by Garnett’s retirement.
