In the Houston Rockets victory over the Brooklyn Nets there was a little bit of a physical altercation to start the game.
With 7:53 to go in the first quarter, Brooklyn Nets big man Kevin Garnett got tangled up under the basket with Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard. When they got tangle up, they swatted away from each other and then, trouble ensued.
After the headbutt happened and all was said and done, Garnett was ejected after only playing 4 minutes in the game.
The NBA also wants to make sure Garnett misses another game for his actions.
The following from Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York.
Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett has been suspended one game without pay for head-butting Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard.
The NBA announced the suspension Tuesday, adding that Howard has been fined $15,000 for pushing Garnett during the altercation, which took place in the first quarter of Monday’s game in Brooklyn.
Nets head coach Lionel Hollins, however, said he thought Howard took a swing at Garnett’s throat. Garnett, who was ejected from the game, will serve the suspension during Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Garnett plays about 20 minutes a game so he’s not dire to the Nets and what they’re doing. Brook Lopez and Cory Jefferson will be sure to step up in his absence but his toughness will be missed at they face off against a Grizzlies team who might have the best frontline in basketball in the form of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.
