Kevin Garnett will retire as the man who is the face of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He announced earlier in the day that he would be hanging it up, joining fellow future Hall of Famers who also walked into the sunset this summer, Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant and San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan. The trio will undoubtedly headline what should be a dynamic Hall of Fame class in 2021.
But before we get to five years in the future, we have to look back and remember the greatness that was Kevin Garnett. His intensity, passion and commitment to the game were second to none and he was also very skillful, powerful and at times dominate on the court. KG will retire with an NBA MVP award, one NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics, a Defensive Player of the Year award, a member of 15 NBA All-Star games, a nine-time All-NBA team member and a 12-time NBA All-Defense team member. Most notably though, he will go down as the most decorated player in T-Wolves history ranking for such stats like Games played, minutes, points, rebounds and blocks. Plus, making the most money off NBA contracts in the history of the league isn’t bad either.
You can tell why there was much sadness about the retirement of Garnett. It wasn’t just the regular fans who were sad but also the NBA players themselves were somber about the loss of another legend in only a few short months.
Check out some of the tributes from guys like LeBron James, Chris Paul, Karl-Anthony Towns, Paul Pierce, John Wall, Andrew Wiggins, Devin Booker and so many more poured in tributes for Garnett.
Thank you, KG.
