It’s no secret that an enduring part of Kevin Garnett’s legacy was how he started his NBA career. He was among the most notable of a generation of stars who skipped college to go directly to the pros.
But that doesn’t mean that KG never wanted the college experience. In fact, according to Chris Mannix of the Vertical (h/t Jessica McKinney of Complex Sports), Garnett wanted to go back to college at 36 years old, and film it as a TV show for Showtime.
KG never got to make his dream a reality, getting traded to the Brooklyn Nets before eventually going back to Minnesota to join the Timberwolves. Now that he’s retired, the big man is busy working on a segment for Inside the NBA and visiting various teams at practice.
It’s unfortunate that KG’s idea never came to fruition. As Mannix states, the plan was for him to take in the full college experience, including staying at the dorms. Could you imagine Kevin Garnett being the roommate of some 18-year-old kid? I need that in my life.
Watching Garnett go from class to class, argue with professors about his grades, and give inspirational speeches before midterms would be an amazing show. Anything is possible.
