Kevin Feige’s success within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is no luck of the draw. He’s been carefully and meticulously planning this from the day he arrived at the Marvel offices in 2007. Just a year later, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk debut in theatres and started the 21-movie saga that will eventually end with ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
“We had huge expectations for Marvel when we acquired it, but the MCU Kevin and his team have built goes beyond anything we could have imagined,” says Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Co.
While Endgame is the end of the 3rd phase for Marvel, this is just the beginning for Feige and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. with ‘Avengers: Endgame’, he is looking to phase out the beloved superheroes we’ve grown to adore and usher in a new class of heroes and villains.
But having reached the pinnacle of his profession at age 45, Feige is poised to start all over again. “Endgame” will usher out several popular team members (Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America are among those expected to exit stage left), while future Marvel projects such as “The Eternals” and “Shang-Chi” will introduce a new group of heroes and villains whose various adventures will eventually overlap. As with everything in the world of Marvel, details of these projects are being treated as state secrets. They could tell you, but then they’d probably have to sic the Hulk on you.
“Some of these films will feature characters that you already know,” says the maddeningly tight-lipped Feige. “Some supporting characters will assume leading roles, while some new characters will be introduced. The reward for all of these films working is that we get to try to do it again and do it differently and learn from our mistakes and try something we haven’t tried before.”
With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ hitting theatres April 25th, spoilers are at an all-time high right now. While Feige has hinted at which Avengers we might see die, he also mentioned that it was inevitable.
