Kevin Durant has finally won an NBA title. This was an image that many people just couldn’t see coming to fruition after four straight seasons of missing the Finals. However, Durant thought it was time to move on and made a decision that would best suit his future, regardless of anyone else’s opinions.
Kevin Durant had a Finals performance for the ages. He averaged 35.2 points. 8.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on shooting splits of 55.6/47.4/92.7. On top of this, he was also magnificent in the 4th quarters this series, averaging 9.2 points on 81TS%.
Despite how remarkable Durant was offensively, Barack Obama was more impressed with the other side of his game. In a podcast with Bill Simmons, Durant was asked what Obama had texted him and he replied with the following.
“‘Congrats. Your defense was really good,’ which was random … and he told me to enjoy it, have some fun, typical stuff. I wasn’t expecting that.”
It’s quite interesting how Obama singled out Durant’s defense when he averaged over 35 points per game for the series. In addition, it’s not that surprising either. The man has been around the game for such a long time. He must’ve developed a keen eye.
