Ever since draft night, everybody has been talking about the relationship between Kevin Durant and the Wizards first round pick Kelly Oubre Jr. Whether this relationship factored into Washington taking Oubre with the 15th pick or not, it has to be viewed as a positive for those hoping Durant could come to DC in the summer of 2016.
What’s even better is that Oubre and Durant are close enough that they work out together on occasion. With many speculating that Washington’s first round pick may have been drafted a bit before he should have, working out with one of the league’s best has to be a huge positive.
Following From Washington Post.
“We’re just competitors,” he said. “He realized I wasn’t going to back down from him even though he’s KD, so he has a level of respect for me and I have the same for him. It’s a relationship that we see each other, I hit him up, or we’ll do some stuff. It’s hard work. He wants to be great. He’s on his way to being great, very close. And I definitely want to be where he’s at one day, so he’s like a big bro. … It’s definitely a great relationship we have.”
Hopefully, Oubre is able to use this relationship with the Thunder star to get himself ready to be the best player he can be as a member of the Wizards. They need the former Kansas forward to become a star and help the team become NBA champions.
