When Kevin Durant went down with a leg injury a few weeks ago in a game against the Washington Wizards, everyone was immediately concerned with the diagnosis and what it would mean for the Golden State Warriors Warriors. What people didn’t realize, is behind-the-scenes Kevin Durant was scared beyond belief at what the injury was given the circumstances.
Durant was back at home in Washington DC playing the Wizards, and the former NBA MVP told The Ringer’s Bill Simmons that the contest wasn’t just another game. He said he spent over $10,000 on tickets for family and friends and he didn’t actually play at all before going down and couldn’t see his family after the game because he was headed to the hospital. On top of that, the doctor initially believed Durant broke his leg and his season was going to be over.
But we all know now that the Warriors are patiently awaiting KD’s return and they anticipate it will come before season’s end. But as KD nears a comeback, he took some time to talk to Bill Simmons about his injury, his return to Oklahoma City, seeing Russell Westbrook at All-Star Weekend and much more.
Durant opened up about his mother expecting a regular game in Oklahoma City only to be blown away by some fans horrible reactions. He talked about past dust-ups with Enes Kanter and Andre Roberson during the two recent Warriors matchups against the Oklahoma City Thunder that he played in. Durant even showcased his love for basketball talking about LeBron, analyzing the league, the rest ‘issue’ and he even added more thoughts about the Shaquille O’Neal feud with JaVale McGee.
