Los Angeles Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope joined the organization over the summer with some baggage attached to him despite the biblical fanfare from Lakers management. Back in March, he was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence in the state of Michigan during his time with the Detroit Pistons. After failing to comply with Michigan’s probation program, Caldwell-Pope now finds himself in at a detention center.
The news was released over the weekend about KCP not being able to leave the state of California during his 25-day sentence and it’s due in part to him being in a detention center and only getting work release of events taking place in the state of California.
Following comes from Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is serving a 25-day jail sentence after pleading guilty on Dec. 13 to a probation violation he committed this summer.
Caldwell-Pope failed to comply with a Michigan court’s drug and alcohol screening order — part of a 12-month probation — according to the prosecutor’s office in Auburn Hills, Mich., where the Lakers player was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence on March 29.
The 24-year-old is serving his sentence in the Seal Beach Police Department Detention Center and, under a work-release program, is being allowed to leave the facility for games and practices, according to court and jail officials and court documents.
The Lakers declined to comment on the situation, referring The Times to a statement they released Saturday.
