Los Angeles Lakers’ guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will be cleared on Monday to travel out of state according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes. He will be released from the Seal Beach Detention Center and cleared to play outside of the state of California.
Caldwell-Pope is nearing the end of his 25-day jail sentence for a probation violation from last March. The arrest was in Auburn Hills, Michigan when he was a member of the Detroit Pistons. The source tells Haynes that Caldwell-Pope will not have any restrictions on his driver’s license.
The courts granted him a work-release to continue playing for the Lakers, but he was unable to leave the state of California. Becasue of that sentence, he has only played in one of the team’s last five road games – a contest against the Golden State Warriors.
Since the sentencing, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has had a very up and down season. He was averaging 14 points per game, but has struggled since having to sit for out-of-state road games. The Lakers are also riding a nine-game losing streak.
This is a contract year for Caldwell-Pope, who signed a one-year 18$ contract with Los Angeles this past offseason. In a proving year, expect the troubled guard to be more involved and motivated for the next few months.
