“The Manimal” Gets A Monster Deal
Denver Nuggets power forward, Kenneth Faried, has agreed to a deal with the Nuggets over night. He had quite the amazing summer at the FIBA World Cup of Basketball helping Team USA achieve gold once again and playing at an elevated level along-side another up and coming superstar in Anthony Davis may have garnered this extension for Faried.
Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the story over night.
Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried has reached agreement on a five-year, $60 million contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Faried is part of the 2011 NBA draft class eligible for extensions until Oct. 31.
The deal includes a partial guarantee in the fifth year that assures Faried he will make no less than $52 million over the life of the contract, sources said.
Denver general manager Tim Connelly and Faried’s agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media Group, started to seriously exchange proposals in the past week and ultimately came to terms on a deal Sunday night, sources told Yahoo Sports.
Faried came to Denver after being a feel good story from mid-major Morehead State. Faried led the Eagles to a 13 over 4 upset against the Louisville Cardinals in the 2011 NCAA tournament. The upset put Faried on a showcase for many draft scouts and it helped him get drafted 22nd overall in the 2011 draft by the Nuggets.
It’s hard to find an NBA fan who doesn’t like Faried’s game. He averaged averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds last season. He’s a do-all power forward for the Nuggets with a slight mean streak who isn’t afraid to post up inside and play hard. Faried can run up and down the court with the up-tempo Nuggets offense and is very effective in doing so. You can find him catching alley-oops, putting back missed shots and pulling down offensive rebounds. Faried’s known most for his rebounding and defense but may be on a potential All-Star level this season.
The interesting thing now is how this will affect other possible deals for the draft class from 2011. Faried just signed this extension to join the number one overall pick from the 2011 Draft, Kyrie Irving, who signed an extension earlier this summer and the Morris Twins also agreed to a deal earlier this week. Now there are guys who are sitting at home, looking at their respective teams hoping that their name gets called next. Some players currently working deals are Golden State’s Klay Thompson, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard, Chicago’s Jimmy Butler and Utah’s Alec Burks and Enes Kanter.
