
Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd are facing a lawsuit for their collaborative track “Pray For Me” featured on the Black Panther Soundtrack.
The track, which peaked on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart at No. 1 is the target of theft allegations. According to TMZ, a Brooklyn based band says the song was ripped from their catalog. Yeasayer, the accusatory rock band claims “Pray For Me” steals material from their 2007 song “Sunrise.”
TMZ reports Yeasayer lists the stolen part as a “distinctive choral performance” the band recorded in their own voice. The band claims Kendrick Lamar and The Weekend used a slightly modified version of their song with “intent to conceal the infringement.”
Yeasayer is requesting all “Pray for Me” profits and injunction blocking further sales and airplay of the song. Listen to both tracks below:
