Hip-Hop lost a legend, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest passed away early this morning (March 23) at the incredibly young age of 45. Most fans, no all, should have People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, The Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders, in their iTunes. As a budding hip-hop head, my first time being exposed to the greatness of ATCQ was listening to “I Lost My Wallet In El Segundo back in 1990 during the summer. Mind you, I was 8-years-old and was completely enthralled by their sound and story the video produced. It’s crazy how music can tap into memories you thought were lost simply because you have gotten older and created more memories. However, the important ones stick, and this did.
Kendrick Lamar, a student a hip-hop, has always been aware of the legends of the past. With his tribute during a show in Sydney, Australia further cements his love for the music and culture. Watch as Lamar performs at Allphones Arena in Sydney Olympic Park below. Shout to HHNM for the drop.
