Two fights have been added to the growing Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano undercard at Madison Square Garden on April 30, 2022. ESPN reports that Franchon Crews-Dezurn will fight Elin Cederroos for the women’s undisputed super middleweight title. Shortly thereafter, Liam Smith and Jessie Vargas will square off as they search for a super welterweight title shot. Capping off the night, Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will square off in what is described as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.
“It is a dream come true to have the opportunity to headline Madison Square Garden and do so against one of the greatest boxers of all time in Katie Taylor,” Amanda Serrano said in a press release.
“When I turned professional my goal was to be involved in huge events like this so to headline at Madison Square Garden in a fight of this magnitude is really the pinnacle of the sport. It’s such an iconic venue and has been home to so many of the historic moments in boxing and I truly believe this will be another one,” Taylor added.
Taylor and Serrano each come in to the bout with a legacy of their own. Serrano is a seven-division world champion while Taylor is the undefeated pride of Ireland. While both women will eventually be inducted into the hall of fame, only one fighter will leave as the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
