For months, many have touted a potential showdown between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor as one of the biggest fights in boxing. Now, it appears that the label of “potential” can be removed from all discussions. During a recent appearance on The DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn informed fans that contracts are being “finalized” for a bout later this year.
“The contracts are getting finalised at the moment. We’re on the brink now,” Hearn said.
“That’s the biggest fight in the history of female boxing. And it’s going to be a massive fight for boxing in 2022.”
Additional reporting from boxing insider Mike Coppinger indicates that the fight will take place on April 30 at Madison Square Garden. Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene adds that “at least two other female title fights being sought for the show as well, ranging from unified title fights to undisputed.” At this time, a Franchon Crews-Dezurn-Elin Cederroos title fight or a Kali Reis-Chantelle Cameron unification bout seem likely candidates to appear on the card. Also, a Alycia Baumgardner-Hyun Mi Choi unification bout remains an outside possibility.
