Remember Ty Dolla $ign’s interview with Billboard where he shared information regarding his studio session with Kanye West, along with their new track with Rihanna? Well, it looks like we may be hearing that track sooner than we think. Over the course of this week, many radio and record label executives have been meeting for the IHeartMedia Music Summit. In short, IHeartMedia is a mass-media company that owns hundreds of radio stations that broadcast all across the United States. More importantly, IHeartMedia is partially responsible for the success, or lack thereof, of your favorite artist’s single playing on the radio.
Earlier today, Def Jam’s Steve Bartels brought out Kanye West to share some remarks and new music.
West finally played a new song featuring Rihanna that he said he’s about to release, pulled the plug on his laptop and walked off stage to a standing ovation. During the break, there were some mixed reactions to what happened, not to mention the fact that his stream-of-consciousness monologue put the day an hour behind schedule. But that said, no one could deny that it was clearly a moment.
There’s an abundant amount of reasons as to why this is good news. I’d say one of the most important reasons being that Kanye cares about radio support. If you followed Kanye’s Yeezus era, ‘Bound 2’ was one of 2 tracks that received a decent amount of spins and audience-impressions via radio. With the Superbowl and the 57th Grammy Awards being right around the corner, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kanye makes a statement and releases the track around that time-frame. Nevertheless, the world needs some new Yeezy.
