Ye’s unorthodox style of basically everything has paid off once again. The Life Of Pablo has become known as “a living piece of art” that’ll continue to be updated with new material. Because of this new approach and not offering a physical copy and due to RIAA’s new streaming policy allowing streams to be factored into album charting, this project is the first to become number one of Billboard mostly from streams. Kanye’s new LP garnered 94,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 7th to earn the top spot. 70 percent of his total came from services Apple Music and Spotify, while the rest came from Tidal.
The Life of Pablo was streamed slightly over 99 million times last week. This comes just shy of the US record currently held by Justin Bieber’s Purpose which holds the record at 100 million streams in a week.
