Just months after his wife’s controversial Paper Magazine cover, Mr. Kanye West takes to the cover of the magazine. Daunting a more serious look and tone, while positioned in front of a navy blue backdrop, Kanye appears focused and passionate on the Paper Magazine cover. In true Kanye West fashion, the ‘All Falls Down’ rapper was given the honor to write his own cover story for the magazine’s latest issue. As with all things Kanye West, there’s a cloud of urgency that can be seen and/or felt within the likes of his music or through what he speaks. The same thing reigns evident in the cover story.
Graduation was an innovation. 808s & Heartbreak was an innovation. The song “Niggas in Paris” was an innovation. “Only One” was an innovation. “FourFiveSeconds” was an innovation. I care about innovating. I don’t care about capitalizing off of something that we’ve seen or heard a thousand times. I’m not a capitalist in that way. I’m an innovator. That’s my job. I like two things: I like innovating and I like making things better. It’s not that I always have to invent things that are new. Sometimes I can take something that’s there and attempt to make a better version and that’s what gets me off. Bottom line.
It’ll be very interesting to see how these new-found personal discoveries and enhanced passion will translate into Kanye’s highly anticipated new album, So Help Me God. Everything aside, the world will surely be awaiting and listening to the magic Kanye has up his sleeves.
