First off I am not a rapper, second off we are not the same
Third thing, all you b***h n****s on the internet, you should be ashamed
K Camp made it his mission to prove to the naysayers that his music should not be boxed in with those who may be looked at as competition. Having successful projects with his debut album ‘Only Way Is Up’ , ‘In Due Time’ the EP and respected catalog of mixtapes from the K.I.S.S. series to the newly released ‘Lyric Ave’ album. Doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.
We got a chance to speak to the Milwaukee native, now Los Angeles resident on a range of things from, the new album, fashion, & more . As you learn throughout the interview, K Camp has a work ethic like none other and aspirations to expand his brand further than just music.
Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us, congrats on the new project ‘Lyric Ave’, what initially inspired you to move out to Los Angeles? Was it easy to just get up and move?
I was just working out there a lot, flying back and forth from home so after a while, it just made sense to get a spot out there. I’ve been doing shows nonstop for the last 3 years, it’s nothing to get up and go anywhere anymore.
From that, what about Lyric Ave sparked the idea to name your project after it?
It just made sense. That’s where I was making the music and the name was dope.
What are some of your favorite records off Lyric Ave?
All of them.
Going from a studio album with Only Way Is Up to your K.I.S.S. mixtape series and several other mixtapes and now Lyric Ave, is there a different process creatively you have to get yourself into?
Besides working with different producers, no. I make music all the time. I have folders of hundreds of unreleased songs and I’m still recording. I just make music and when it’s time to give my fans something, I pick the best songs and I give it a name.
Is there an artist(s) (Hip Hop and R&B) that you have not worked with yet that you want to work with?
Rihanna
With the Rihanna collaboration, what producer would you bring on board for that collab?
My producers. Bobby Kritical & Musik Majorz.
Who was your favorite collaborator and what’s it like working with them in the studio?
There’s only one feature on Lyric Ave. My boy, Jxmmi from Rae Sremmurd is on Free Money. Working with Jxmmi is wild, he’s lit all the time lol and he knows how to put that energy into the music.
Now that Lyric Ave is out, what’s next for K Camp?
I’m goin’ on tour and dropping more music for my fans.
Should we expect a new mixtape or are you going to let some tracks fly sporadically?
I just want to put out music and the state of the culture right now is to flood the market. Music doesn’t last long any more because the industry is so saturated. I’m definitely working on projects, I want to continue to put out bodies of work but if some tracks fly, they fly.
Outside of music, do you plan on stepping into any other endeavors?
Definitely, I want to do it all. I just did my first fashion ad campaign last week, but I can’t tell yall about that yet. You’ll see.
Being that I am real big on sneakers, do you dive into sneaker culture?
Not as much as I used to. I’ve been getting into more designer sneakers, loafers and shit, switching it up on them.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
Progressive. I’m growing, learning, trying new looks and really developing my personal style. And it’ll keep developing, I’m the switch up king. I don’t ever want nobody thinking they know what’s next from K Camp, whether it’s my music, my style or my power moves.
Lastly, if you had to choose one song from Lyric Ave that best describes you which would you pick?
Hungry N Lurkin
