‘Jurrasic World‘ was the surprise hit of the summer back in 2015. Upon its release, the film broke the all-time opening weekend box office record. Which at that time was held by Marvels ‘The Avengers‘. After the record-breaking success of the reboot, Universal quickly announced plans for a sequel. Details surrounding the film have been few and far between since the initial announcements after the first film. The film found a director a little over a year ago in J.A. Bayona. Bayona has previously directed smaller budget films that are still very effects heavy. Such as ‘The Impossible’ which centered around the 2004 Thailand tsunami disaster. As well as last years ‘A Monster Calls’. Today, however, marks the biggest news day since the announcement of Bayona. With the release of the official title for the sequel.
‘Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom’ is now officially the title for the 2018 film. The title could be linked back directly to the events of the first film or it could refer to something else entirely. The director of the first film Colin Trevorrow will be serving in a producorial and writing capacity this time around. Trevorrow recently spoke with Collider about some of the elements that he and J.A. are trying to incorporate into ‘Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom’. Stating the following.
“I gotta tell you man, I think that’s gonna be a better movie. I just do. It’s just deeper, it’s more character-based, it definitely leans into suspense especially in the second half. It does have the big action in the middle and there’s a sequence in the middle that I’ve been watching…I’ve started to see stuff come together and it’s just insane. I apologize to those who thought they were never gonna need to see another Jurassic World movie, because I think J.A. Bayona is gonna prove [them] wrong.”
The combination of Trevorrow and Bayona could prove to be just what the sequel needs. If they succeed and bring the aforementioned elements into ‘Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom’ it could easily be the best film in the franchise since the original Jurassic Park. ‘Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom’ opens in theatres on June 22, 2018.
