The starting point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, Jrue Holiday, has a chance to be a free agent this summer. His remaining $11.2 million this year will be off of the Pelicans books at the end of the season. Per William Guillory of nola.com, Holiday has yet to think about his upcoming free agency, though.
“When asked about his plans for this offseason on Monday, Holiday said, ‘I haven’t thought about it, not even a little bit.’ But he was optimistic about the team’s future and his fit within the scheme moving forward.”
The 26-year-old has had a solid season so far for the Pelicans. In 33 minutes per game, the guard is averaging 15.6 points, 7.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals. He’s also shooting a career high 47.4 percent from the field, while also shooting 37 percent from three.
Holiday offers as a nice compliment to Anthony Davis and the newly acquired DeMarcus Cousins. At just 26, he’s also on the same timeline as the two star big men on the roster.
It was said earlier in the year that the Philadelphia 76ers were going to be interested in Jrue Holiday this summer. Another team of note that will look at Holiday to fill the point guard spot is the New York Knicks. After the Derrick Rose injury, this may be even more likely.
The Pelicans are essentially out of the playoff race this season. With just five games remaining for the team, they are five games behind the Portland Trailblazers who occupy the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
