Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith has been cited for reckless driving. Smith was pulled over at 1:20 A.M. in Orlando on October 12, the day before the Cavs play the Orlando Magic.
Following from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com:
Westlake police notified Bay Village that Smith’s car was speeding on Interstate 90, according to a police report. Smith’s car sped by an officer’s cruiser on Lake Road.
The officer turned around and Smith pulled into the driveway of a neighbors’ home, according to the police report. Police gave Smith field sobriety tests, but the report does not say anything about the results.
A family member was allowed to drive the car back to Smith’s home, the police report says.
The police report didn’t show the rate of speed Smith was driving, according to Vardon, but he was going fast enough to attract the attention of police nearby.
Smith was involved in a deadly car accident that killed one back in 2007. He was given 24 days of jail time and 500 hours of community service at the time, and was also suspended seven games by the NBA.
Smith’s license has been suspended before — he has been pulled over on the road several times over the past ten years.
