New York Knicks made a multitude of moves this offseason in an attempt to be a respectable NBA team once again. One move they have yet to make is dumping one of their biggest salaries going into the 2015-16 season, Jose Calderon.
The Knicks are reportedly interested in acquiring Los Angeles Clippers guard Jamal Crawford and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio but in order to get those guys, something has to come back in return.
Why not Jose Calderon? His talent might not be at the same level it once was but if the Wolves or Clippers are interested in moving one of their own bad contracts, their options may be limited.
It appears that Calderon and his bad contract has garnered some interest from the Clippers and T-Wolves.
Following from Jose Calderon’s Twitter Account.
A trade involving Calderon from the New York Knicks to either the Clippers or Timberwolves for Ricky Rubio or Jamal Crawford would require some assistance from other NBA teams. The only contracts the Knicks can trade straight up right now are Calderon, Carmelo Anthony -who has a no trade clause- and the small contracts of Langston Galloway and Cleanthony Early. Everyone else on the Knicks is not permitted to be traded until specific upcoming dates. A three-team deal would have to be worked out by any of the teams Calderon apparently is getting interest from.
While the deal might not be a pretty one for either side, it could be beneficial for all players involved to have a change of scenery, a change to something different is always good for players.
