On Friday, March 25, 2024, Briarcliff Entertainment will debut its latest feature film, Magazine Dreams, in theaters.
The Elijiah Bynum-directed theatrical release follows emotionally troubled bodybuilder Killian Maddox as he navigates a world of violence and celebrity while taking care of his ailing grandfather. Starring Jonathan Majors as Maddox, the film debuted at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
“Majors looks and sounds like the hulk cousin of Dennis Haysbert, and his inner silent pensive quality is transfixing. What a performance,” Owen Gleiberman of Variety wrote.
“Jonathan Majors’ incredible transformation to play bodybuilder Killian Maddox in Magazine Dreams is breathtaking, first seen in godlike glory in a daydream, striking the requisite professional competition poses, caressed by shafts of golden light,” David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter commented.
Coupled with Majors’ success alongside Michael B. Jordan in Creed III and his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the film was set to catapult the actor into Academy Awards discussions when it was released on December 8, 2023. However, those plans were derailed when he was arrested on assault, strangulation and harassment charges in New York. Majors was reportedly involved in a “domestic dispute” with a 30-year-old woman and the police were called to a Manhattan department at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
“The victim informed police she was assaulted,” spokesperson for the New York Police Department stated.
“Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition.”
Ultimately, a jury found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and harassment as a violation. He was sentenced to a yearlong domestic violence intervention program and probation.
