Joker has easily been one of the most successful films to emerge out of the DC Universe in recent memory. During the film’s opening weekend, the film brought in $96.2 million. More recently, the film crossed the $1 billion mark. Now, it appears that there’s more on the way from Joker director Todd Phillips.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips walked into the Warner Bros. Pictures Group offices and asked for the rights to produce more origin DC Universe origin stories. In addition, he is expected to lead the charge in directing the film’s sequel in the future. Phillips was originally interested in creating a Bruce Wayne backstory, but that project has already been given to Matt Reeves. The report hints that Phillips could be linked to a Darkseid or Lex Luthor origin story film.
Aside from Phillips work, Joker star, Joaquin Phoenix, has sequel options in place for another Joker film. However, Warner Bros. has not issued a statement regarding any further Phillips projects or Joker films.
