John Wall’s penchant for providing assists is not limited to the basketball court. Since he was first drafted into the league, Wall has made a name for himself as philanthropist, helping those in need in the community.
As a result of his actions, Wall was awarded the 2015-16 NBA Cares Community Assist Award, according to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post. He will be presented the award tomorrow at Bright Beginnings, a childcare center and Wall’s charity of choice to receive $25,000 in his name from the NBA. The money will be used to build a new playground.
Wall has previously helped the organization before by surprisingly providing them with a $400,000 donation last September. The Wizard point guard became known for his good deeds when his friendship with Miyah, a young girl who had cancer (and later passed away with the disease) became public. A video of him crying after a Wizards win because of his friend’s death became a symbol of Wall’s kind hearted nature.
While Wall always plays with an edge on the court and can often be seen talking trash and staring down opponents, off the court he has a very different mentality. He has continually aided the community with his time and money. There is no doubt John Wall deserves the honor of winning this award.
