John Wall has reportedly fired agent Dan Fegan of Relativity Sports. The Washington Wizards point guard is in the second year of a max deal with his team, but has missed out on negotiating for a larger contract in the new high salary cap market. Additionally, unlike most star players, Wall does not have a player option for the last season of his five year deal, meaning he will not be able to become a free agent sooner.
Fegan is most known for the DeAndre Jordan saga over the summer. The agent has close ties to Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban but took a big hit to his reputation when Jordan backed out of a verbal agreement with the Mavs. Since then, Jordan has also cut ties with the agent.
Meanwhile, rumors have Wall hiring Rich Paul as his next agent. Paul is one of the most well-known agents around the league as his most prominent client is LeBron James. Paul has negotiated James’ contracts so that he can opt out every summer to take advantage of the rise in salary cap. He also recently negotiated a max deal for Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Tristan Thompson. Paul also has ties to Nike, and Wall may be looking at that as he undergoes negotiations for a shoe deal.
Wall has confirmed that he will be moving on from Fegan, calling it a “long story;” however he has expressed that he has not yet signed with anyone. Nevertheless, all indications are that he will be hiring Paul.
