John Wall is probably a top-five point guard in the NBA right now, and he believes that he’s that best “two-way” point guard in the league, he said in episode five of his “NO OFF SEASON” video series on YouTube.
“Two-way player” as a term is sort of stupid. Every player plays basketball on both ends of the floor, even if some don’t do it well on one end.
Wall – defense and offense combined – is not a more valuable basketball player than Stephen Curry. Is he a better defender than Curry? Yes. But Curry’s offensive impact outweighs Wall’s defensive advantage. Most would argue that he also isn’t more valuable than Russell Westbrook. Chris Paul is probably ahead of him as well. That said, being the fourth-best point guard on the planet is far from an insult.
Wall is a tremendous player, but he’s not the best point guard in the league, “two-way” or otherwise.
Earlier this summer, Wall agreed to re-sign with the Wizards through 2023; the deal will net him around $207 million.
Last season for the Wizards, Wall averaged career-best marks in the following categories: Points per game (23.1), assists per game (10.7), steals per game (2.0) and field goal percentage: 45.1.
