Move over Denzel, there’s a new Washington in town. After a breakout role in HBO’s Ballers, John David Washington has been launched into the national consciousness. With a scene-stealing performance in last year’s BlackKklansman and memorable roles in both The Old Man & The Gun and Monsters and Men, the younger Washington is carving out his own Hollywood legacy. (Maybe that’s why Dad is trying his hand at directing again.) And according to a report from Variety, Washington was just tapped for the starring role in Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated next film.
This information is virtually the only thing we know about Nolan’s film. He recently finished the script and Warner Bros. quietly set a release date alongside a wealth of DC release dates a few weeks ago. But, nothing is known about the plot, genre, cast, or even title at this point. The closest thing we’ve got to a synopsis is whispers from insiders who claim it’s another epic, envelope-pushing film, set to be released in IMAX.
It’s a near-certainty that Nolan’s untitled epic is attracting the attention of some big names behind and in front of the camera. But again, most everything about the film is being kept under wraps. It is set to begin production sometime later this year though.
The untitled film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2020.
