Joel Berry, the 2017 Final Four Most Outstanding Player recently broke his hand. The injury will keep him out around four weeks meaning possibly missing the Tar Heels first two games. One of those will be against a Northern Iowa squad who upset the Tar Heels in recent year to open the season. Berry broke his hand after punching a door after losing to teammate Theo Pinson and a team manager in a video game. Berry has been known as one of the fiercest competitors on the floor during his time in Chapel Hill. It seems that competitiveness runs high off the floor as well and it cost him a couple games of his senior season.

In Berry’s abscense, Jeff Goodman of ESPN has reported coach Roy Williams has said sophomore Seventh Woods, freshman Jalek Felton (cousin of former UNC guard Raymond Felton), and Theo Pinson will all see time at point guard. Woods and Felton will be competing for the majority of the minutes with Woods seen to have the upper hand with a year of experience under his belt. Berry was picked by many to have a potentially All-American year and is a favorite for the Cousy Award. It will be interesting to see how th break on his shooting hand affects him once he returns.
